3D digital holotomographic microscopy renderings of human red blood cells treated with ibuprofen at varying concentrations (0.25 mM to 3 mM) over a 20-minute time-lapse. Red/orange = normocytes, yellow = echinocytes. Higher ibuprofen concentrations (1-3 mM) convert normocytes to echinocytes with characteristic surface spicules. (human (peripheral blood from healthy donors, ex vivo ibuprofen treatment); Figure 4.)

Blood film of case 2: The blood film reveals normocytic normochromic anemia with the presence of bitten RBCs, echinocytes, polychromatic cells, schistocytes, and blister cells. (human (neonatal peripheral blood, infantile pyknocytosis); Figure 5.)

Peripheral blood smear from case 2 of infantile pyknocytosis. The film reveals normocytic normochromic anaemia with echinocytes (burr cells) showing regularly spaced projections around the cell periphery, bitten RBCs, schistocytes, and polychromatic cells. Blue arrows mark pyknocytes. Spherocytes also present. Wright-Giemsa stain. (human (neonate, infantile pyknocytosis); Figure 5.)
